STKO Academic Research and Educational Licenses
We believe that OpenSees is a powerful tool for education and research, and our goal is to make it more accessible for students. The OpenSees GUI of STKO empowers students and researchers to visualize the structures they are building in OpenSees and view the results of the analyses. STKO brings the full power of OpenSees to your fingertips with an intuitive graphic interface, robust pre- and post-processing tools, and specialized geotechnical features—all designed to drive innovation in civil and structural engineering. We offer a variety of Academic and Research license solutions.
FREE Trial License
A full unlimited license for 30 days is provided to everyone for the purpose of evaluating the software.
We want students to have more access and increased interaction with OpenSees didactically. With the Free Learning License, they will be able to build models, run analyses, and experiment in STKO. This license is also perfect for university students looking to study the basics of OpenSees.
All Trial licenses will automatically convert to the Free Learning License after the 30 days expire. Scroll down to learn more about what’s included in the Free Academic License.
Academic/Research License
Provided to accredited researchers, research institutions, universities, colleges, or technical schools, either public or private. The licenses may only be used for personal or research purposes. Academic licenses include all available features and modules of the software at a favorable price.

Educational Pack License
Includes 1 academic/research (unlimited) and 30 educational (limited) licenses and is available to accredited research institutions, universities, colleges, or technical schools. The licenses may be used only for educational purposes. The license may be used by students and teachers and includes all available features and modules of the software with some limitations.

It is important to note that maintenance is not a prerequisite for the renewal or continued use of your license at the version and level originally purchased.
