Cyclone Towers

Italy, 2005 – 2006
Client: Cementi Rossi S.p.A., TAI S.r.l.
The assignment, undertaken on behalf of the company Cementi Rossi S.p.A. as a result of the analyses performed by the company TAI S.r.l., concerned the seismic evaluation and the consequent design of seismic improvements of the Cycle Tower, a 73 m high structure located within the cement production plant. The plant has been located in the Trevisian brand since 1953 and occupies a vast area of more than 120,000 square meters.
Given the peculiarities of the assignment, the project envisaged reinforcement through the use of high-strength carbon fibers EB-FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymers, fiber-reinforced materials composed of fibers of various kinds impregnated in an organic resin).

Due to the high operating temperature of the structure (85 ° C), an epoxy resin tailored for this application was developed and tested. This project is one of the first applications worldwide of a resin of this type.
